Chelsea and Arsenal both entered the draw, having sat out of the group stages due to their Champions League commitments.

Arsenal, who have won the competition on a record five occasions, will host Aston Villa – a side who have never progressed past the quarter-finals.

Tottenham – beaten semi-finalists last year – will welcome London rivals and back-to-back winners in 2020 and 2021 Chelsea.

The best second placed team – either Manchester City, Liverpool or Leicester will host the winner of Group C – either Brighton or West Ham.

The winner of Group D – either Bristol City, Charlton or Lewes – will host the winner of Group B – either Manchester City, Liverpool or Leicester.

This year’s final will take place on Sunday 5 March at Crystal Palace’s Selhurst Park. Manchester City are the current defending champions, after coming from a goal down to beat Chelsea 3-1 in an entertaining final at Plough Lane last season.

The remaining group stage ties will take place on 11 and 18 of January to determine the Group D and Group B winner, and best second place team.

The Continental Cup quarter final fixtures will be played on the evenings of Wednesday 25 and Thursday 26 January 2023.
