When both Sony and Canon are debuting an array of cameras at the CP+ camera show in Tokyo, Japan, can Nikon be far behind? The Japanese camera manufacturer will be launching six new camera models at the event beginning from Thursday. All the six models will be from the CoolPix range. It is interesting to note that Nikon, unlike Canon has not named any camera to debut in its DSLR range.

The models being launched include Nikon CoolPix P530, CoolPix S9700, CoolPix P340, CoolPix S320, CoolPix AW120 and the CoolPix P600. Of the six models, all except the P600 are upgrades to previous models. The P600 ($500, or roughly Rs. 31,007) is a bridge-styled super zoom, 16-megapixel camera with a BSI CMOS sensor. In addition, it has built-in Wi-Fi with a 60x optical zoom with optical and hybrid stabilisation.

The Nikon CoolPix P530 is an upgrade to the existing P520 and is also a long super zoom camera with a 42x (24-1000mm) lens. Sans the Wi-Fi, it has all the features of the P600 and is priced at $450 (Rs. 27,909 roughly). It will be available by the end of February. Nikon is also debuting the CoolPix S9700 (see below), an upgrade on the existing CoolPix S9500. With a 30x (25-750mm) lens it has Wi-Fi and GPS and a 16-megapixel BSI-CMOS sensor. It features an OLED screen and is priced at $350 (roughly Rs. 21,699). Colours available are Black and Red and it will hit stands end of February.

The P340 is an upgrade to the P330, which, interestingly is a large-sensor, wide-aperture lens camera. It has a 12-megapixel 1/1.7-inch BSI-CMOS sensor, and a 24-120mm f/1.8-5.6 lens. It features support for shooting RAW and has built in Wi-Fi sans the GPS. Available in Black in March, the camera will cost $380 (roughly Rs. 23,563). The rugged CoolPix S320 (see below) can sustain a five feet drop, courtesy its shockproof design and well-rounded edges, and it also is waterproof up to 33 feet. A 13-megapixel CMOS sensor with a 3x zoom and a 30-90, f/3.3-5.9 lens completes the specs on it. It is available in White and Blue from March onwards at $130 (roughly Rs. 8,063). The last of the cameras is the CoolPix AW120. It is an update to the AW 110 and is priced at $350 (roughly Rs. 21,699). With a 16-megapixel image senor, a 24-120mm f/2.8-4.9 lens it is waterproof till 59 feet, survive falls up to 6.6 feet and can operate at very low temperatures (14 degree F). Colours available are Orange, Blue, Black and Camouflage. It will go on sale in March.
