Paris Saint-Germain head into their clash with Rennes on Sunday hoping to extend their lead at the top of the Ligue 1 table.

PSG are ten points ahead of nearest contenders Marseille and have won their last four league games but the recent Champions League exit continues to dominate the back pages in France.

    Paris Saint-Germain team news

A number of key first-team stars remain on the sidelines for PSG. Achraf Hakimi, Marquinhos, Neymar, Presnel Kimpembe and Nordi Mukiele are already out, and they have been joined by Sergio Ramos after a calf injury disrupted Thursday’s training session.

Ramos is a confirmed absentee but silence appears to be golden when it comes to Lionel Messi. The Argentine missed the same training session for an unknown reason but was not mentioned in the club’s injury report, so he should be fine.

Carlos Soler has also been ruled out with a muscle injury.

(4-1-3-2): Donnarumma; Pembele, Pereira, Bitshiabu, Mendes; Verratti; Zaire-Emery, Vitinha, Ruiz; Messi, Mbappe.

    Rennes team news

Rennes will continue to be without their joint-leading league goalscorer this season as Martin Terrier continues his recovery with a ruptured cruciate ligament.

Young Belgium international Jeremy Doku has struggled this season and won’t feature he due to injury, but Warmed Omari is available again after serving a suspension.

(4-3-3): Mandanda; Traore, Wooh, Theate, Truffert; Bourigeaud, Santamaria, Majer; Gouiri, Kalimuendo, Ekambi.

Paris Saint-Germain and Rennes have both been hit with injuries to key players at a crucial point of the season. PSG’s Champions League dream is over for another year, while Rennes said goodbye to Europa League in February following defeat to Shakhtar Donetsk on penalties.

That should mean a more open game at Parc des Princes but it’s still a sizeable task for Rennes to leave Paris with three points; PSG are undefeated in 33 of their last 36 matches and even without some key players they should pick up another victory here.

    Prediction: Paris Saint-Germain 3-2 Rennes
