Steven Gerrard has been linked with a shocked return to management with the Poland national team following his dismissal from Aston Villa.

The Liverpool legend endured a torrid time at Villa Park, winning just over 32% of his 40 games in charge before he eventually parted ways with the club.

Gerrard’s spell dismal spell at Villa followed up what was a rather fantastic one at Rangers where he guided the Glasgow giants to their first SPFL title in a decade – preventing arch rivals from winning ten league titles in a row in the process.

Listen now as Scott Saunders hosts Graeme Bailey, Toby Cudworth and Tom Gott in the latest episode of Talking Transfers. This week they discuss Chelsea’s hectic transfer strategy, which includes a loan move for Joao Felix and interest in Romeo Lavia and Marcus Thuram among others, Man Utd’s pursuit of Burnley striker Wout Weghorst, Leandro Trossard’s Brighton future and more. Now without a managerial job, Gerrard has been linked with a whole host of vacant posts, with the most recent one he’s been linked to being the Poland national coach role. That link has come from Polish outlet Meczyki, who have reported that the ex-England international has had talks with the Polish FA over the position.

If Gerrard were to take the job he’d be taking over from ex-manager Czesław Michniewicz.

Michniewicz signed a one year deal in January 2022 with the FA retaining an option to extend the contract by a further year. Following a rather unimpressive showing at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar however – in which Poland went out in the round of 16 – there was a decision made not to extend his contract.
